Te Tohu

Following the completion of the 2040 strategic vision in 2018, a conversation began with uri to find a logo that would represent Ngāruahine going forward.  After months of engagement and feedback, a new tohu for Te Korowai o Ngāruahine was formed and presented at the AGM, 31 August 2019.

As with the previous tohu change, this seeks to draw us forward while honouring the past and acknowledging the present.

Our journey has only just begun

For the purpose of the Treaty Settlements, the Ngāruahine area of interest extends from the Taungatara Stream at the northern-most boundary to the Waihi Stream at the southern-most boundary. The area also encompasses Egmont National Park, including te Tupuna Koro o Taranaki (Mount Taranaki) and overlaps with Taranaki Iwi (west), Te Atiawa (north), Ngāti Maru (north-east) and Ngāti Ruanui (east).

The negotiation process was managed by Nga Hapu o Ngaruahine Iwi Inc which included establishing Te Korowai o Ngaruahine Trust who at the end of 2016, received the settlement assets and is responsible for managing and growing those assets.

Our Vision

Ka Ora Taku Toa
Kia Tū Ngāruahine Ai Tātou

Our Mission

To be a Healthy, Wealthy and Culturally Vibrant Iwi.

E kore au e mate,
Ka mate ko te mate
Ka mate ko te mate
Ka ora taku toa

This kōrero is to remind us of the campaign of Titokowaru.
‘E kore au e mate, ka mate ko te mate’ reflects a time when our tupuna fought to the bitter end and even after death, they refused to give up. They refused to die because our existence as Ngāruahine, tangata whenua was paramount.
Today, our mere existence cannot be our goal.

‘Ka ora taku toa’ is our rallying cry that we must flourish and thrive. Ngāruahine iwi take every action to be a healthy, wealthy and culturally vibrant iwi and ‘ka ora taku toa’ is our vision for Ngāruahine iwi.
